The Cathay Bank Foundation is thrilled to announce the 20 recipients of the 2025 Cathay Bank Foundation Scholarship. This year, the program received 1,187 applications, a 65% increase from last year’s 720. Among these applicants, over 37% will be the first in their families to attend college, and more than 87% identify as minorities, highlighting the program’s continued reach into diverse and underserved communities.
The Asian Pacific Community Fund, which administers the program, conducted the initial review and narrowed the applicant pool to 894 highly qualified candidates. From there, Cathay Bank volunteers carefully evaluated each submission to select the final 20 awardees.
Leadership recognized the students’ exceptional achievements and reaffirmed the Foundation’s pride in helping them pursue their goals and make a positive impact. Deborah Ching, Chair of the Cathay Bank Foundation, stated, “Cathay Bank Foundation is proud to support the 2025 recipients to achieve their dreams and make a positive impact on our communities. We congratulate these deserving young scholars.”
Nancy Tarr, Cathay Bank’s Senior Vice President and Director of Community Development, added, “Cathay Bank proudly sponsors these scholarships for exceptional students as an investment in the communities we serve. We hope that the scholarships will greatly contribute to the students’ ability to reach their goals and aspirations. We wish them much success in their educational journey.”
The Cathay Bank Foundation Scholarship remains a cornerstone of our commitment to expanding educational opportunities across the states we serve. Each scholarship awardee will receive $2,500 in financial assistance towards their tuition costs as they pursue their higher education goals.
